Results – Barge Match – Sunday 17th May 2026. See pictures and video in separate post.
Position Skipper Points 1 Jakub G. 7 2 Neale M. 14 3 Richard C. 16 4 Stuart W. 27 5 Allan P. 11 from 3 races Quite a fun mornings racing with far fewer boats than were expected, but with the skippers racing for the first time a couple of years. It was fun with not too many collisions, and also avoidance of the other boats on the water made it a bit more interesting.
We will have to try again on another spare day when and if the weed lets us.🤞

Our annual barge get together. Bring your model sailing barges along and sail them together with other skippers. Currently there does not appear to be any weed problems. Other models more than welcome, but there will be a good proportion of canvas on the lake. It is forecast to be ideal sailing conditions. So come along and enjoy the day.

Egham Royal Show – Report and Pictures
What a great weekend we have just had – good company, lots of boating chat, boat queries solved and great weather (if a little too hot at times).
I must say a big ‘Thank You’ to club members who collectively brought about 20 boats: Martin, Dave and David, Richard, Phil and Connor, John and Derrick. However, the biggest ‘Thank You’ must go to Jackie, who is the Egham Royal Show Secretary, for her excellent organisation and support.
Attached are some photos taken in the model marquee. A couple of general shots of our stand. One of St Nectan, owned by Derrick which won ‘The Best Model in the Show’. Also, one of Martin with Gio in a buggy. Gio is a founder (and current) member of PMMC and at 94, he still has an active interest in the club and boat modelling.
Thanks
David W.

Postponed! – PMMC Open Day – August 6th 2025.
Due to the amount of weed in large areas of the lake, it has been decided to postpone the ‘PMMC Open Day’, until sometime in October when conditions should be more favourable. We will advise the actual dates once the committee has discussed at the next meeting.
However as it is a normal sailing day, for members who want to use the lake it is still possible for certain types of model boats, such as smooth keeled yachts, and and in the cleared area (front of the island) scale electric/steam.Published on:

General Sail Day – Sunday 22nd June 2025.
This Sunday’s sailing can be anything you wish to sail: – sail, steam or electric. The weed does not seem to be a big issue at the moment as Brian sailed his Victoria yesterday without any problems. However, the sailing of any yachts with a deep keel (IOM’s etc) should be done with some caution in case they hit a pocket of weed, smooth keel boats (Moonbeams etc) should be fine.
Please bring your own table as the Island Bar may open with customers using the tables provided by the restaurant.

News and General Update – 25th April 2025
For the next few weeks Wednesdays will be no-racing days, e.g. bring any type of boat. This will be followed by one-off race days rather than having a race series. The race days planned are:
21st May – IOMs
28th May – IOMs (or Victorias if the weed is starting to show)
4thJune – Victorias (weed permitting)
Silvermere Inn on the Lake have advised us that they have events taking place on Sundays 25th May and 15th June. So regrettably we will not be able to sail those days. However, some other events are planned:
* 1st June – Service vessels etc (warships, tugs and lifeboats etc)
* 22nd June – Large yachts (Marble heads etc)
* 20th July – Barge match

PMMC – ‘open day’ 24th July. A chance to get together, sail, have a chat and swap ideas.
The weed cutting has finished, most of the weed has been removed. There is now a chance for members to enjoy a summer’s day together without too many weed related problems. Bring your boats along for a sail, have a chat, and enjoy swapping stories with fellow club members.
Please remember the lake is not weed free, so boats may still catch the odd piece of weed now and again. This is especially true for deep keel vessels.

Sailing Barge Get Together – no sailing due to weed.
The Barge Match due to be held on Sunday 30th July has been changed to a “barge get together” as the lake is not in a suitable state for racing (See Above!)
Anyone with a barge is welcome to come but don’t expect much more than a small area to float in.
I will be there with boat or two but don’t expect much to happen except maybe the offer of a cup of coffee or tea from your chairman.Published on:

PHOENIX OPEN DAY CANCELLED
Members will be well aware of the lake weed issues that we have been battling against since the spring. We have spent many hours trying to keep it under control in front of the jetty and along the front of the ‘island’. However, the best we seem to achieve is to clear it on a Monday or Tuesday for limited sailing on a Wednesday only to see it back the following week. Regrettably Silvermere cannot get the weed cutter in because of the low water level.
At the moment, yachts with smooth keels and built-in rudders (e.g. Moonbeams) seem to sail without problems provided there is sufficient wind, but other types of hulls and anything with a propeller are liable to get stuck.
Therefore, it is with great regret that your committee feels it necessary to cancel the Open Day this year, especially as we will not have a rescue dinghy available on the day.
At the moment we are planning to have the 2024 Open Day early in the spring before the weed becomes a problem.
